Hey all! It's Tuesday night and time for the DIDS, short for "Damn, I Did Something." It's a chance for all of us to offer up the cool and awesome things we have DONE in the past week.
Sorry the DIDS hasn't been around much lately. The end of summer has been busy here at Casa Kendrick. After I finished my class in July, I spent the first two weeks of August catching up on chores and getting in a lot of fun with the boys before school starts (for those of you who don't know, I'm in secondary education). And when does school start? Next week!!! Faculty reported back to school yesterday and students start back next Monday. This leads me to the DIDS I'd like to share today--starting my new job!
Last Spring I accepted a new position--Academic Facilitator and IB Coordinator at a middle school. This week I actually started the job. It's a big change.
I will no longer be in the classroom. Instead, I'll be working as a quasi-administrator, supporting teaching and learning, going to a lot of meetings, leading a lot of meetings, mentoring and coaching teachers, etc. I now have an office, business cards, and a job title. I don't have to do any lesson plans for next week and if I'm sick, I don't have to call in for a sub. When we sat in our faculty meeting yesterday, and the principal talked about discipline plans and lockers and assigning text books, I could tune out because I won't deal with any of that stuff. The other big change--moving from a high school of over 2,000 students to a middle school with less than 300 students.
I thought all these changes would be a bit more jarring, but I find that I'm pretty comfortable with the new situation. My office needs a lot of work and I've got a long to-do list, but I feel like I can manage it. Over the summer, I sometimes wondered what I'd gotten myself into when I took on this challenge...after two days of it, I'm very happy in this new adventure.
So, what's up with you all? What are your DIDS this week? What new adventures have you embarked upon? Please share!
