A daily blog in defense of liberalism and the President.
President Obama was interviewed today on the Michael Smerconish radio show, and said straight out the Republicans are trying to destroy healthcare no matter what to defeat the President with the hope of replaying what happened in 90’s with Clinton. Sadly the pay no attention public is giving the GOP exactly what they want, and according to Smerconish his listeners are so angry with the President because they see him trying to orchestrate a government take over of healthcare, auto industry, banks and everything else. Wow, a large majority of American must either have a short memory because all of what the President has done has been in response to our dire economic state and not because of some sinister socialist agenda to take over America and destroy our free capitalist system. Chris Matthews called the President on talk radio today, The President Strikes Back! Well I hope so! It is time to fight back the lies the right and megabusiness are throwing at the President in an attempt to destroy his Presidency and sadly they don’t care how many Americans get destroyed in the fight. We need to stand up and speak out along with President Obama and say enough is enough; we can no longer tolerate the lies and hate mongering. Those who are engaged in this fight to attack anything the President does are not doing it on the basis of civil political discourse, but calculated attempt to bring disorder to the process and keep the status quo, or even worse the people that are fueling the flames of hate. I got a text from a friend of mine last night worried he believes we are only weeks away from some kind of Tim McVeigh style attack somewhere. Sadly I don’t know if I agree with his time table but I sure as hell believe with this much fervor and hate and people on the right only ratcheting up the crazy rhetoric it is only a matter of when it happens. That is why it is so important for those of us on the left and in the middle to call out those who lie and hate and do nothing but try and destroy this Union and never, ever try to strengthen it.
Now, I’d like to discuss something closer to home, the economy. Here at the bottom I can tell you in east central Illinois things have not improved. I still look for work everyday and sadly things seem to be getting worse rather than better. I remember something about clean coal, yet we still can not get the FutureGen project off the ground hear in Mattoon, Illinois. We were promised this two years ago by the Bush Administration then when the site was chosen to be here in Mattoon and not in Texas, Bush blocked the funding from the Energy Department. I also remember something in the Stimulus about money to digitize medical records. I have not seen anything about that since January and believe me all the Doctors offices in this area as well as the Hospital still uses the same old paper and folder system. I have seen some road construction which is certainly needed considering many of our roads are pot holed and shitty, but that does not help employ many people and being a little selfish, because I to would like to be able to feed and shelter my children, it doesn’t do shit for me. I know they are trying and I hope things will turn around but at the pace it is going people will start to really suffer and I fear that will only bring more anger and violence. So let us all hope this recovery someday begins and not just for the rich on Wall Street and investors, but for all those of us out there how would love a job, but they just seem to have all dried up.
Now for the Philosopher of the Week, Plotinus, who wrote, "Never stop sculpting your own statue." I love this quote it is the classic concept of never finish working on yourself and striving to better yourself, for if you believe you have reached somekind of perfection than you truly are farther away from it than if you were just beginning. Plotinus also said, "Evil is an absence." This I too agree with and what he is saying is there is an empyness and nothing to those who have evil in their heart, to be full is to be full of love, hope, charity and compasion, for evil is a negitive. Well I guess that is enough for today and until tomorrow, goodbye...
