Got a Happy Story is a community gathering every Monday night where we share stories large and small that have put a smile on our face. The Happy Story diary exists as a way to anchor the community in hope and comfort while we do the hard work of maintaining a permanent Democratic majority. Everyone and all sorts of stories and pictures are welcome. Consider this an open thread.
"I am a part of all that I have met."
-- Alfred Lord Tennyson
"I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can."
-- George Bernard Shaw
Okay, I'll be honest. I don't have a happy story today. But there've been a few moments this week here on dKos that have raised my spirits wonderfully, and often unexpectedly, so I thought I'd share them with you, and then let you guys tell me your happy stories -- I need to hear them.
The first was this wonderful diary by Leo in Dallas (The Hakaishin) about the magnificent efforts of the Kos community to help him and his family get moved into their new digs. And I just noticed, in checking my links, that he's got a follow-up diary tonight. Check it out and give him some love, here.
Next came StandUpToRacism's delightful diversion about a trip to his local barbershop, and the goings on there. Not your usual Daily Kos fare, by any means. Just a magnificent O. Henry-esqe visit to a small slice of his community.
And late last night, rbutters posted some letters we've received back from soldiers who received the NFTT care packages we sent out.
These three diaries are part of the community aspect of Daily Kos -- something that gets unfairly maligned around here from time to time. Stories about this community doing mighty things, caring deeply, taking responsibility for our soldiers abroad and those who've come home to difficult circumstances, and a tale told by a Kossack who enjoys his own community enough to take the time to share a story about it with us.
What's your happy story tonight? You know how we love to hear about them.
