The Missouri filing deadline for Congress was yesterday. The Senate race seems set between Dem State Treasurer Nancy Farmer and Republican incumbent Kit Bond.
In Congress, 2 Democrat incumbents are retiring: Dick Gephardt in district 3 and Karen McCarthy in District 5. The Dems look like they have a pretty wide open race in District 3 with 10 candidates going for the nomination. In district 5 former Kansas City mayor Emanuel Cleaver looks like the frontrunner, though he is facing a couple of challengers, including one who challenged him for the Mayor's seat in 1995.
Despite the large number of candidates in general, only 1 incumbent, Republican Jo Ann Emerson is facing a primary challenge, from frequent opponent Richard Kline. The Dems have a couple former State Representatives running, George Weber in District 2 and Charlie Broomfield in District 6.
I don't think any of the Missouri Districts will be major battlegrounds in November, but the Democrats look like they are putting credible candidates up in the districts they lost when the incumbents retired: Charlie Broomfield in District 6 and Linda Jacobsen in Missouri 9.
