I just got back from early voting - I will say I wasn't first but more like 10th in line. I voted in a middle class area with about 20 Hispanics, 1 African American and only 1 white elderly couple. We used Diebold machines but our county has been using them for about 5 years now so the election officials were very comfortable providing help and explaining things.
The people in line were very excited about voting but no one was talking - it was a very serious atmosphere. I got the feeling that there was an urgency for people. The very first person in line to vote was a handicap hispanic male and he grinned when he left. That's how I feel now too - I've done the one thing that matters most in the election.
Now I'm going to see if there is anything local I can do to help - I am taking classes at night and on Saturday so I'm limited but you never know.
When I got back to my car I took the "I Voted" sticker and put it across the "Veterans for Kerry" bumpersticker on my back window. Take that you W'04 Texans who keep cutting me off!
