pros: Americans arent too pissed and all... the right thing was done
cons: Wingnuts pissed, chip away at core base... beginning to Consitution party getting a real 3-6 percent next election.
Its kind of ironic. If Congress and Bush did not get involved, this would not be a big issue. Bush would not have wedged himself into this, and the American people would have have decided "I dont want the government to decide if I live or die".
Also, Isnt it funny that the top of the reccomended list on Dkos just like 3 days ago was "GOP memo: how to capitalize on Schiavo issue" or something like that. They truly thought this would bring them up. haha.
Im no expert, but I am going to make a totally random guess on what will happen next.
1) Schiavo will die.
Congress and Bush will offer condolences etc., a bit of finger pointing, winguts showing a more "human" side to Terri Schiavo, but damage to Bush's approval done. High gas prices and Social Security also contribute to Bush's low approval ratings.
- Next: hints of terror warning
- Terror alert raised to Orange. This has worked always in the past, and should work again. Remember, we have not had a terror alert for months, so the American public will be fresh for these, and ready to spy on neighbors!
This should work. We will forgive and forget about Schiavo, and back to the fear mode. If it does not work, I would not be suprised to see a red alert, etc.
3) Social Security pushed. I do not think they can win on this one. Unless if the filibuster completely is taken away, they cant win this one. They will keep fighting.
The GOP has screwed itself over with this Schiavo thing.
As I said earlier today, Schiavo should, as to her wishes, die. Michael Schiavo is doing what he thinks is best for her, I believe. The GOP wanted another wedge issue.
They got it.

P.S. sorry if when you read this, you think that it seems I am being inhumane by hoping that we will see politically capitalizing on someone who is sick and dying. But she is sick. We wont change that. And she wanted to die if she was like this. I do hope she dies peacefully, as she would have wanted.
