Whole Foods: don't believe the hype

There's currently an article on the rec list which suggests that Mackey is "gone" from Whole Foods. This isn't the case, and it's important to clarify what's really happened here.

According to the associated press (via ABC news), the real story is that Mackey is giving up the "title of chairman."

Is he still on the board of directors for Whole Foods?

Yes.

Is he still CEO of whole foods?

Yes.

If you support the boycott of Whole Foods, there's little reason for this to be a celebration. This is opportunity on the part of Whole Foods to look as though they are making a change, but making no actual change whatsoever. I'm fine with either position people take on the boycott of Whole Foods, but it's important for us to be dealing with accurate and meaningful information when we do so.
