Or, to be precise, today San Diego, tomorrow the country.
A progressive talk radio station. I listen to the radio primarily in my car. Almost all the time these days, I listen to NPR. Sometimes I need the sound of a human voice, and music (classical) won't do. I don't like shouting and hate. From time to time, I have been in someone else's car and heard Christian talk or Dr. Laura, or once Michael Savage. Otherwise, I watch some of the series C-Span does of talk radio shows. That's where I discovered Thom Hartman et alia. I was excited when Air America started, but here in Tucson, we didn't have it.
The un-Savage-ing of radio - it's about time.
Well, this time it's starting in San Diego, with Jon Elliott. The plan is to gather the talk show hosts who used to be on Air America, and to expand into other areas where AAR had some success. Progressive talk radio. With strong progressive management, and a Board composed of Robert Greenwald, Jim Dean, and Michael Dukakis(whose second inaugural ball as Governor I attended). Let me put in a word for Tucson. We're bluer than Phoenix.
If you are in San Diego, you can hear Jon Elliott on 1700 AM radio from 3 to 6 PDT. The rest of us can stream him at http://www.jontalk.com and you can also become a member at that site. Membership is $10 a month, and will supplement advertising revenue, a necessary accomodation to the economy.
And tomorrow, Jon will be live-blogging here at 11 AM PDT (2 PM EDT), cleverly disguised as Jill Richardson. So check in under Jill's name, and join the discussion.
