You've gotta hand it to Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry. Over the past few months, he's managed to better than anyone else, manage to show just what a stunning hypocrite he really is.
But the latest one takes the cake.
Yes, you probably remember when Perry threatened secession while at the same time demanding from that nasty oppressive Federal government of ours 37,000 doses of Tamiflu to deal with the H1N1 outberak.
And surely you remember his naked attempt to play politics with Federal stimulus money when he announced he'd be rejecting more than $500M in stimulus money, primarily because he didn't want to have to extend benefits to the unemployed.
But he was okay with some stimulus money, and now we know why! AP via Yahoo! News, reports:
AUSTIN, Texas – While Gov. Rick Perry is criticizing Washington bailouts, state lawmakers are planning to use $11 million in federal stimulus money to help rebuild the badly burned Texas Governor's Mansion.
Approximately $10 million in state tax money will also be spent on a renovation, which is expected to cost about $20 million, officials said Thursday. A House-Senate committee agreed on the expenditures late Wednesday night...
"If we're going to fix it up we're going to have to use stimulus money," said state Sen. Steve Ogden, R-Bryan. "We've made a decision to use the stimulus money. This is a good use of it."
I mean, that does seem like an excellent use of Federal stimulus money, after all. We need to make sure that someone who's whipping up Anti-American sentiment while loosely throwing around the notion of secesion and talking about the "oppressive thumb" from Washington is in a nice place to live. And it would truly be a shame to make the Governor live in a place that wasn't befitting of the "sovereign" state's leadership. Might as well milk the money for all they can.
Uh-oh! Quick, Rick, start whining about the oppression provided by the Federal government before anyone else notices this!
