All of the Reagan retrospectives have made me think about Reagan's legacy. Although I don't think Reagan will be remembered as one of history's great presidents, I do see how Reagan is beloved by Republicans. He was the public face of conservatism. He made it seem o.k. He was able to articulate what conservatives were all about. He brought the Republicans into the majority.
Reagan so changed the political dialogue, that Clinton really ran on a "Reagan-lite" platform. Clinton talked about "reducing the size of government" and "ending welfare as we know it." Democrats have become the me-too party in recent years.
My question: who will be the Democrat who can effectively detail what Democrats stand for and why we should vote for them? Is it John Kerry?
