A diary entry by "lefink" from earlier today passionately and accurately points out that George Bush's expected push for a constitutional amendment permanently codifying discrimination against gay men and lesbians will be regarded as just short of a declaration of war against our community. In response to this entry, JamesB3 offers the following remarks :
"You won't find a community much more self-defeating than the gay community. Try going into a bar or a community center and asking -- BEGGING -- people to vote. Try dealing with them when they say they don't want to get married anyway, so who cares. The people who do care will likely move to another country, and I don't blame them. I will be doing the same if I ever get the money, which isn't likely in the near future."
I wouldn't normally single someone out on kos or any online community, but this type of explicit homophobia - the implication that both gay men and lesbians do not care about the potential that the constitution will be amended to permanently classify us as second class citizens, and the broader implication that such an amendment might be okay - should not be tolerated at dailykos. If it were up to me, I would immediately ban this immediately from this blog, and I certainly hope this type of point of view is not representative of the dailykos community.
