Lewis Black was on fire last night on the Daily Show, calling out Glenn Beck for his ludicrous and constant Nazi comparisons to everything Obama does.
Black: This is a guy who uses more swastika props and video of the Nuremberg rallies than the History Channel!
For God's sake, he compared global warming to Nazi Germany!
BECK [April 30, 2007] (audio): That was Hitler's plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N.'s enemy: global warming.
BECK [February 5, 2009] (video): I'm not accusing Al Gore of being a Nazi, or anything like that.
Black: YES YOU ARE!!! You just did it!!
But he saved his best for last, calling him out for citing the famous Martin Niemöller "First they came..." poem, and interpreting it completely wrong, and then giving Glenn some "advice" on what to do.
Video after the fold....
Black went down the list of things Beck had compared to Nazis, with video evidence for each one of them. This is what the Daily Show staff was able to pull up. There's probably even more if you include his radio show; all this was JUST from his Fox News TV show (I've included the dates when he made these comparisons).
- empathy for Supreme Court justice (May 26, 2009)
- National Endowment for the Arts (November 3, 2009)
- teaching kids about climate change (February 5, 2009)
- ACORN (May 7, 2009)
- TARP (July 1, 2009)
- the Peace Corps (August 27, 2009)
As Black says, this is "Nazi Tourette's".
Black's closing argument, so to speak, against Beck had this great "advice" on what he should do, since he feels so persecuted.
BECK [June 18, 2009] (video): You ever heard the old poem, "First they came for the Jews"? Well, first they came for the banks, then it was the insurance companies, then it was the car companies....
Black: Glenn, get a grip! There's a DIFFERENCE! They came for the Jews to KILL THEM! They came for the banks and the car companies to give them $700 billion dollars! If that's "coming for them", then come for me! Hell, for $700 billion, I'll go to you! Unless... it's not me they're after.
Gee, I wonder who they could be after.
BECK [April 27, 2010] (video): "First they came for the Jews, and I stayed silent".... Next, I'll show you the very latest attacks on me... (starts to choke up again)
Black: Yes, Glenn, the Nazis are everywhere. And you're not safe. So here's what you do, and take it from me, my people have been through this before. First, you gotta find an attic. Then, hide there for the next three years, and whatever you do, don't make a sound! We'll let you know when it's safe to come out!
Yep, he went there. :-) Hey, as long as Beck is throwing around Nazi references left and right, I see nothing wrong with Lewis Black throwing it right back in Beck's face.
Update: Remember folks, when you make the rec list, act like you've been here before. (Which I have.) ;-)
So I just wanted to say, now that you've seen the video, take the link and MAKE THIS SUCKA GO VIRAL. Post it on your own Facebook page so all your friends and family can see it. If you're really brave and willing to risk it, post it on your friends' walls, especially your right-wing friends (if you still have any). At least then they can't have the excuse that they just didn't know/remember what Beck did.
