Ron Johnson should really just stop talking. He can't answer a question without revealing his severe lack of knowledge on... well, you name it.
The latest revelation of Johnson's stunning ignorance came today when he was asked why he said "we have to get the oil where it is" when he was asked (on a loud speaker) if he thinks we should drill in the Great Lakes:
Johnson said when he told an interviewer that "we have to get the oil where the oil is," he didn't hear any reference to the Great Lakes in the interviewer's question.
Besides, the Great Lakes oil reserves are too small to be worth drilling, Johnson said.
In other words, if Ron Johnson HAD heard this silly, hypothetical question testing the limits of his "drill anywhere" oil stance, he would have never taken the bait because he knows there isn't an amount of oil "worth drilling" under the Great Lakes.
This is a breathtakingly stupid thing for a candidate running for the U.S. Senate from a Great Lakes state to say.
This was not a silly, hypothetical question, Ron. The reason why you were asked if you would support allowing drilling in the Great Lakes is because there not only IS oil worth drilling, but the oil is being drilled RIGHT NOW!
Michigan and Canada have been drilling from the Great Lakes for years through so-called "horizontal drilling" where they get at oil reserves underneath the Great Lakes by drilling on land, but at an angle to get under the lake.
In fact, in the the 90s then-governor Tommy Thompson pushed hard to allow horizontal oil drilling right here in Wisconsin.
What is shocking is that even after weeks of getting pounded on this issue, he still hasn't taken the time to sit down and familiarize himself with the issues surrounding drilling for oil in the Great Lakes.
I hate to say it, but this guy makes Sarah Palin look like Albert Einstein.
