Fresh off being deliberately misleading about her cash on hand numbers, Carly Fiorina continues to lie about her supposed fundraising strength. From yet another release:
Sacramento, CA – Carly for California Deputy Campaign Manager for Communications Julie Soderlund today issued the following statement in response to news about Barbara Boxer’s fundraising in the last quarter of 2009:
"Barbara Boxer should be a very worried incumbent senator today. Not only did Carly out-raise Boxer in just 60 days to the tune of 2 to 1, but the polls are showing that, going into a tough election year, Boxer can’t earn the support of more than a majority of voters and that Carly is within three points of beating her after just two and a half months in the race.
Of course, given Senator Boxer's ability to fundraise and Fiorina'a cash on hand numbers without her loan, the only way that her claim can be true is if she is including her own multi-million dollar loan in her fundraising numbers.
So what's providing the incentive for her outright mendacity? The entry of former Congressman Tom Campbell's entry in the race might have something to do with it: Campbell already has a lead over Fiorina in the Field Poll, which is California's most reputable.
The only thing that could make Republicans of any stripe support Fiorina over the moderate Campbell or the hard-right Chuck Devore is her ability to challenge Boxer financially--not that she even seems to be able to compete from that standpoint without her personal warchest.
