Here in Delaware, we are loving the national attention, and reveling in the opportunity to ridicule a local teabagger.
However, every few days in the mail, I receive a mailer from Stupid Spice, a.k.a. Christine O'Donnell. Each one attacks Chris Coons with lies about his record (hey, at least he HAS a record).
The real story is the addressee to whom the mailer is sent...
'Friends of Christine O'Donnell' sends these mailers to the previous owner of our house "OR CURRENT OCCUPANT."
We bought the house in early 2004. Judging from other mail that has showed up over the years addressed to the previous owner, he was a Republican.
My wife and I are both registered Democrats. Our names and our address are available to the campaigns. We receive political mail all the time, addressed to us by name. We haven't heard a peep from the Stupid Spice campaign...
...but they are sending mailers to a seven year old list of registered Republicans.
Who are they trying to convince? If the COD campaign wanted to get Democrats to vote for her, they'd send us mail. If they wanted to get current Republican voters to turn out at the polls, shouldn't they use a voter registration list published after the 2006 elections?
Maybe I'm missing the real explanation here... but these are my theories:
- "Friends of Christine O'Donnell" is incredibly inept.
- They are trying to shore up Republican support, having given up on the Democrats.
- They didn't buy recent voter lists because Stupid Spice is saving the campaign's money to pay her rent next spring.
Many of you know a lot more about the nuts & bolts of political campaigning than I do... am I missing something here?
