But Dean knows, in a more painful firsthand way than anyone else, what happens when the "X is running away with the nomination" story gets tired, and the pack cycle continues through "Can X be stopped?" to "Rising doubts about X" and "X begins to self-destruct."
The goal is to speed that process as much as possible by indirectly encouraging the notion that Kerry is the presumptive nominee, then have some money and organization ready when he's been torn down and people start looking for an alternative.
