This new papers bill is just a step below Nazi's branding the Star of David on your body or forcing someone wear the Scarlett Letter. If you look like an immigrant you will be forced to carry your legal papers in the State of Arizona.
At least some opponents of the bill have spoken loud and clear
Immigrant rights groups were horrified, and contended that Arizona would be transformed into a police state.
"It's beyond the pale," said Chris Newman, legal director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network. "It appears to mandate racial profiling."
This bill is nothing less than evil. What's even more scary is that leaders in Arizona are silently backing this measure or in John McCain's case have called it a good tool.
In an interview with Bill O’Reilly on Fox News on Monday, Mr. McCain said: "The state of Arizona is acting and doing what it feels it needs to do in light of the fact that the federal government is not fulfilling its fundamental responsibility — to secure our borders."
He added that it would be regrettable if the legislation, which still needs Gov. Jane Brewer’s signature, led to racial profiling. But he said it was aimed at protecting "people whose homes and property are being violated, drivers of cars with illegals in them that are intentionally causing accidents on the freeways."
Regrettable if it led to racial profiling? - It's not leading to racial profiling. It's starting with racial profiling and ending with terror. It's as Mr. Newman says "mandating" racial profiling. WTF McCain
The straight talk express has clearly become the say anything to win express.
I think we have all had enough of Mr. McCain and his "moderation". It's time to get rid of him
And as my great friend MinistryofTruth advocates in his diary
If you REALLY want to have fun at Arizona's expense, donate to Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Rodney Glassman with ActBlue and help take down Wingnut Not a Maverick Senator John McCain.
Just by looking at someone you are going to be able to ask them for their papers. Targeting an entire group of people that I hope surely does not pass constitutional muster.
Update: Glassman has condemned McCain's statements
McCain's appearance won a quick condemnation from Democratic senate hopeful Rodney Glassman. Glassman issued a press release ridiculing McCain for a statement suggesting that illegal immigrants are intentionally causing traffic accidents, writing, "This kind of over-the-
top rhetoric does nothing to bring the two sides together to hammer out common sense ways to enforce our laws and save lives."
