I don't write diaries, really - I lurk. I let Crashing Vor write them. Unfortunately, something horrible is happening at DailyKos, and I need to address it. You people have stopped caring.
I read the excuses: disaster fatigue, MSM coverage, misappropriated funds, I don't got nothing. Look, I've lived in New Orleans for ten years now. I went through evacuation, watching my city disappear under water, unable to find all of my friends and neighbors until a week after we returned, October 2nd. I let down my guard, and then the accidents, heart attacks, suicides occurred, and my heart burst. Now is the five year anniversary and throughout the city there are remembrances. Yet all I can think about is Pakistan, and how much worse it is than anything we experienced. We lost our city, but so many volunteers came to help and locals fought to restore this old place. Where are your hearts? Pakistanis have lost not only family, friends, homes, towns, but the town next to their town, the city next to that town, the food for sustenance, not only of their bodies but for their livelihood. They are surrounded by water and they cannot drink. There should be a diary on the rec list all the time about this monstrous event. Why isn't there one there right now?
Where is the community that helped us here in NOLA, those in Haiti, and elsewhere? Why is Pakistan, described as the worst disaster in modern history, so forgotten? There have been some great diaries out but not enough have made it to the rec list. It is overwhelming, but so was the flooding here, Katrina on the coast, the oil spill, cancer, - if I can push out of lurking to berate you, you can help. I have only given a little bit of money, but we could raise so much. If I can donate, you can too. Do you hear me? As a boon, if you give, I promise this rant is not addressed to you; fair? Come on, DK, prove you still have hearts.
Here are links to past diaries, so much better than mine. Unfortunately, few made it to the rec list. Those that did, weren't there long enough:
