This will be short. Where do I find the DK/PPP weekly polling updates on approval ratings for politicians and parties?

On DK3 it was an easy-to-find feature right on the FP. Now I have to do a complicated search for it.

Lookit, guys/gals, I don't have that amount of time. I used to loke dropping in to DK3 for 10-15 minutes, scan the FP, the polls (on Fridays, now Monday) and the rec/recent lists, have a look ... etc.

Now DK4 is forcing me to spend more time than I have to hunt for stuff.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

when I go to "groups" tab it just gives me a list of the recently created groups.

If the "point" of DK4 is that you "follow" authors or groups ... I can "find" an author on the search tool, but with hundreds if not by now thousands of groups, how do I find a group?

For example, there must be groups with the word "bread" or "astronomy" or "Egypt" in the title of the group ... but how do I find it/them??

      Who woulda thunk it? LOL

[It's on the top bar: 'HOME ... FAQ SEARCH']

      •  Ummm ... no. (0+ / 0-)

I tried that. I can search for diaries and authors, but not for groups. There is no "search for group titles" function.

On dKos home, beside 'Search' is a button 'Go'.

          Click on 'Go'.

Up comes a screen headed 'Daily Kos Search'.

Beneath the header are links for 'Diaries, Comments, Users, Groups, Tags'.

Which one of those do you think you should click on? Class? Anybody? Buehler?

          That's right: Groups.

Now you can choose to search either the Group Name or the Group Description for character strings, and you can specify the specificity of the match: 'Is Exactly', 'Contains', 'Starts with', or 'Ends with'.

Beneath that is a button labeled 'Search'. When you are ready, click on that button.

I won't tell you what happens next because it's important that you discover some things for yourself, but it's real and it's fantastic!

more useful than it was in DK3, but welcome to the general confusion and frustration.

    •  The most likely way to do it serendipitously (0+ / 0-)

is to notice that a diary you like was written to a group.

Which is space that could be used for actual info, imho.

I also find it confusing that when you are reading a diary by someone, that person's name is highlighted at the top and you see all their info - their Mojo, recent diaries, comments, tags, blogroll, etc. It's weird. I keep feeling like I'm jumping from personality to personality.  I never feel like I'm "home" in "my page" and viewing other people's writings from there.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or that's the way it is. Very confusing for me.

The idea is that once you click on somebody's diary, you are going to one of their pages.  It's supposed to be a way to help you find more content, e.g. you go, "This is a cool diary, the diarist must be cool...what has the diarist recommended, it must be cool too since the diarist is cool, oooh, this title sounds interesting, I'll click on that one" and off you go to the next diarist's page.

In other words, yeah, you're jumping from personality to personality when you go from diary to diary.  You're only on your own page when you're reviewing the list of what's in your stream, your comments, your groups, your message in-box, working on your own diary...

I just saw the poll in the 'Feature' box at the top of the right hand side of the page.
