This Saturday at noon, an enormous coalition of progressive groups, led by unions and the netroots, are holding rallies in all 50 state capitols and every large city. The rallies are a show of solidarity with the fights for workers' rights in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and elsewhere. Tens of thousands of people have already signed up to attend. You can join them by clicking here.
The epic fight put up by the protesters in Wisconsin must be taken across the entire country. If we are going to pull the political center of gravity away from Wall Street's black hole, this must become the start of a national movement for a new economy that actually works for everyone.
In the name of “shared sacrifice,” the working and middle classes are being asked to pay for tax breaks and bonuses for the rich. American corporations are experiencing record profits and sitting on record cash, but they are using it to buy off our government and create more jobs overseas than they do at home. Now, to top it off, Republicans are pushing to make it illegal for workers to collectively negotiate wages and benefits with their employers. Workplaces are to become dictatorships.
There has to be a new movement to counter this, and there is no better opportunity to start one than during the largest American labor action in decades. We must all find the courage of the protesters in Cheddar Rebellion and make this a turning point in American politics.
Please, sign up to attend a rally near you tomorrow at noon. This is the birth of a new movement, and we all need you to be there.
