Let's face it. Unless one of two things happen in Wisconsin the anti-labor budget bill is going to pass the Wisconsin Legislature.
Those two things are:
1. Governor Walker backs down and decides to either pull the whole bill, or decouple the union givebacks and the collective bargaining language in the bill and get them through as two seperate bills...
or
2. Three Republican Wisconsin State Senators flip against their party and vote to defeat the bill.
I doubt highly whether either one of these events are going to happen.
So, now what?
Once the bill passes, and I'm afraid that even with all the protests that have been happening the last two weeks, it's going to pass. Folks, we need to face some reality here. How long can those 14 good folks stay in the sanctuary state of Illinois?
So, now what? Start recalls on the 8 Republican Wisconsin State Senators that are eligible for a recall? How long does that take? Take the bill to court? Get a temporary stay of the bill from the Wisconsin state court system? Again, can that be done before too much damage is done? Hope that Wisconsin turns blue in their next statewide elections? 4 years is a long time to create trouble.
How do the good citizens of Wisconsin fix this? And, for you that think I'm just giving up, no. I'm heading to the Chicago rally to support the people of Wisconsin tomorrow. I have to try, even though, I think it may be fruitless. But, miracles have happened before. My family has a lot invested in the State of Wisconsin, even though I'm a FIB,and a Bears fan.. My oldest daughter graduated from UW-Madison last spring, and she's working for Americorps in Milwaukee. (which BTW, is under attack from the Rethugs in DC -call your congressman to support Americorps!)
Wisconsin, Forward!
