You may think The Donald is not a serious candidate, but lately he's received more media coverage than a supposedly legitimate candidate like former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty. Will he really run? Who knows—but we wanted to find out how he'd do in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup with President Obama. Of course, we don't hold a national election in the United States, but results like these are still meaningful, because it's very hard to win the presidency without a plurality of the popular vote. (Unless the Supreme Court does you a huge solid, of course.)
So it's a downright pleasure to see Trump not only getting crushed by Obama to the tune of nine points, but also to see his truly atrocious favorables. I doubt that any challenger can win the presidency with a negative 18 favorability rating from voters (especially not when the other guy is at +2). There is, however, one group that does love the bewigged former star of The Apprentice: teabaggers. They like Donald by a pretty nifty 49-18 margin, his best performance among any demographic group. That's not terribly surprising, given Trump's recent play to become America's Top Birther. But it is entertaining as heck to see self-described "Tea Partiers" cotton to the biggest d-bag billionaire around.
Me, I'm all for a Trump campaign. If we're lucky, he spends a bunch of money roughing up the other candidates and damaging whoever emerges with the nomination. And with numbers like these, maybe we'd be really lucky if that person were Trump himself. Because who wouldn't want to tell him, "You're fired!"
