ROMNEY: To balance our budget and not spend more than we take in, we need to make sure that the promises we make in Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare are promises we can keep, and there are various ways of doing that. One is we could raise taxes on people. That's not the way...
AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Corporations!
ROMNEY: Corporations are people, my friend.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: No they're not!
ROMNEY: Of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to people.
AUDIENCE (laughter)
ROMNEY: Where do you think it goes?
AUDIENCE MEMBER: In their pockets!
ROMNEY: Whose pockets? People's pockets. Okay, human beings, my friend.
In other words, we need to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits instead of raising taxes on corporations because corporations are people. And apparently those who benefit from Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are not.
10:19 AM PT: Hahaha: Fox just announced that there had been a "heated exchange" over Social Security at Mitt Romney's event. Video coming in 20 minutes, they say. Well, you can see the video here, now. And I'll bet you anything they focus entirely on the lead-in to the question, and not Romney's answer. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even play the "corporations are people" line at all.
10:25 AM PT: Food for thought: If only Mitt Romney would have treated his family dog as well as he does corporations.
