Think Progress is in Iowa, lucky us. They brought us the wisdom of Sen. Rand Paul earlier: "We're all corporations!" Now it's tea party icon and grifter extraordinaire Sarah Palin.
KEYES: Governor, are corporations people?
PALIN: The people pay the taxes. It’s not an entity — the corporation itself — that pays the taxes. It’s the people who pay the taxes. So Mitt Romney was right.
Well, yes, there are people in a corporation and presumably, or hypothetically to be more on point, some person in that corporation actually does have to take responsibility for making sure the corporate taxes are paid. Or, more likely, figuring out all of the dodges to make sure no taxes are paid.
But just because it's people figuring that out doesn't mean that the actual corporation, as an entity, isn't supposed to pay taxes. That's why they are called "corporate taxes." If that's what she was even trying to say.
Bottom line, Sarah sez corporations are people! Take that to your next tea party meeting.
