Update: some have commented below that this man only has a small following, and suggest that I've overblown the threat. My response to that is that Westboro Baptist Church only has a small following. Should we ignore them? You can believe this: with the growing extremism on the right this idea will eventually catch on with the Dominionist, sure as a wacko like Michele Bachmann caught on with the right. I believe our job here is to note these threats, and begin developing a serious response so we won't be caught off guard when these ideas make it to "mainstream" dominionism.
The title says it all. They are comparing atheists to child molesters, and saying they need to be monitored.
Brothers and Sisters , I have been seriously considering forming a ( Christian ) grassroots type of organization to be named "The Christian National Registry of Atheists" or something similar . I mean , think about it . There are already National Registrys for convicted sex offenders , ex-convicts , terrorist cells , hate groups like the KKK , skinheads , radical Islamists , etc..
This type of "National Registry" would merely be for information purposes . To inform the public of KNOWN ( i.e., self-admitted) atheists .
That's right atheists are like sex offenders, terrorists, and the KKK. I don't really have anything clever to say about it. It is just flat out revolting.
Now , many (especially the atheists ) , may ask "Why do this , what's the purpose ?" Duhhh , Mr. Atheist , for the same purpose many States put the names and photos of convicted sex offenders and other ex-felons on the I-Net - to INFORM the public !
To inform the public? Why exactly? Well, to harass atheists, of course:
My family and I would sure like to know how many of those 109,000 are ADMITTED atheists ! Perhaps we may actually know some . In which case we could begin to witness to them and warn them of the dangers of atheism . Or perhaps they are radical atheists , whose hearts are as hard as Pharaoh's , in that case , if they are business owners , we would encourage all our Christian friends , as well as the various churches and their congregations NOT to patronize them as we would only be "feeding" Satan . ~link
In other words, they want a list of all the atheists in their area so that they can harass them with right wing religious propaganda or worse yet, do them financial harm. And they can't possibly see why atheists would be bothered by such harassment and financial extortion. Why, the only reason an atheist would be against being listed on such a registry is because they would be ashamed of their "atheist religion." This is another form of eliminationism, wherein you eliminate the group you hate through intimidation, harassment, and economic blacklisting.
I am not an atheist. I am a Christian. And I don't think you have to be an atheist to get chills down your spine to know that there are so-called "Christians" who think like this. To think that these people consider themselves of the same faith I follow, and would still think to harm thy neighbor with harassment and economic extortion simply because they don't believe the same things is chilling.
8:53 AM PT: Thanks for the Rec list, folks.
8:58 AM PT: I am going to give a Hat Tip to my friend at a message board I frequent for bringing this to my attention. She goes by the username Raven there.
You can find her post here.

A lot of comparisons to what the Nazi's did to Jews in the comments. Those comparisons are accurate, but for a chilling contemporary analogy, entlord in the comments suggests the comparison to lists of abortion doctors that the religious right fanatics have passed around. This is the most apt comparison because this is the way the contemporary religious right operates. They make these lists as a means of harassment with the ultimate hope of encouraging their violent followers to take matters in their own hands. Make no mistake about it, this is not merely about discovering a chance to proselytize, and it's not merely about economic black-listing and extortion, this is about the dreams of more right wing violence.

And now, Even Crazier Stuff from i like bbq in the comments:
The arrogance displayed by the evolutionist class is totally unwarrented. The facts warrent the violent expulsion of all evolutionists from civilized society. I am quite serious that their danger to society is so great that, in a sane society, they would be, at a minimum, denied a vote in the administration of the society, as well as any job where they might influence immature humans, e.g., scout, or youth, leader, teacher and, obviously, professor. Oh, by the way… What is the chance evolutionists will vote or teach in the Kingdom of God? ~ Tom Willis, Creation Science Association
That takes the cake in violent eliminationist rhetoric. Willis doesn't even try to dress up his rhetoric in code language. It is absolutely vile.
