It's not everyday that we experience what is to be one of the storm of the century.
One thing we can always remember though in the American media is that no matter what the problem we can always count race to play some factor in the way stories are portrayed. Well I tend to think of problems in terms of class now but this is pretty fucked up.
Below is a photo and caption that took my breath away on yahoo news.
First thing when I woke up I checked to see if my family was alright - then made some breakfast for my girlfriend who took shelter with me for the storm. Finally after a belly full we opened up yahoo and saw this:
What's wrong with this picture? Surely this man is going through some undue hardship from the storm and is searching for help.
Not in America and not according to Yahoo news!
The caption proudly proclaims:
Crime in the Wake of Hurricane Irene
I thought to myself - Self this is surely a series of photos that depict looting or vandalism or something horrid that people need to do to survive one of the worst storms of the century. Apparently black men wading through two feet of water can't be given the benefit of the doubt because that bike is just sooooo tempting. They can't resist going after anything that isn't tied down. Next they will be coming for the women and diapers.
No - Not in the least bit - Just racism.
We experienced this with Katrina and I'll be damned if this is his people are going to be portrayed in the wake of this storm.
What makes it even more galling is that just a few photos away we see this:
However this man enjoys the caption:

So let me get this straight - One man is engaging in crime because he is walking through flood waters but the other is merely reflecting on the damage that could have been done to Wall Street in a pensive reflective way.
Yahoo want's us to come away with the impression:
Black people = Looters
White people = Quiet reflective souls.
Ugh - I need a shower. Again.
Confront this on a daily basis is the only way to make it go away.

Black ni@@ers are always serious trouble in disasters, I heard from many first responders to 9/11 that ni@@er cops were actually stealing wallets & purses from the dead at the WTC.
