Boehner to deliver his own 'jobs' speech

Exactly one week after President Obama delivers his (rescheduled) speech to Congress, Speaker John A. Boehner of the House of Representatives is slated to address the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.

Mr. Boehner’s office would say only that the topic would be “jobs and economic growth.” However, if this speech is anything like the one he gave to the Economic Club of New York in May, it could be a preview of the legislative wrangling to come.

This is not a speech to be taken seriously. Unlike in the debt ceiling battle, John Boehner does not have a hostage. And while he may say the topic of his speech is "jobs and economic growth," you can bet your last dollar that the message of the speech will be "why government shouldn't do anything about them." And that his only proposals will be to gut consumer protection regulations while cutting taxes on "job creators."
