You'll be shocked, shocked! to find out that Majority Leader Eric "offsets for disaster relief" Cantor has been
pressuring FEMA on aid to his district in Virginia (via
TPM).
And it's not just the run-of-the-mill letter writing.
On Friday, Cantor held a conference call with Federal Emergency Management Agency and Louisa County officials. A readout of the call provided by Cantor’s office indicates that he asked FEMA officials about the timeline and process for determining whether the agency would grant federal assistance.[...]
Cantor also spoke with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, asking for additional information and a better sense of timing, according to his office.
Huh, they might have a better sense of timing if they had received adequate funding in a quick supplemental like the one the Senate passed two weeks ago to get them through the demands of earthquake and hurricane response. Of course, that would have had a much better chance of being passed if Eric Cantor hadn't insisted on taking FEMA hostage in the latest debt fight.
Hopefully FEMA's answer to him is "get in line, asshole." Since it's probably not their answer, because they are responsible government officials who are actually concerned about Cantor's constituents, they probably need a different answer. So, how about this? How about you offset the FEMA disaster aid to your district out of your PAC, Mr. Cantor?
