Funny how, while Republicans all over the country hurriedly pass new election laws to combat all that "phantom" liberal voter fraud, when someone is actually caught and convicted of voter fraud, said fraudster is a Republican.
Shocked, SHOCKED I say!
The latest incident involves Indiana Republican Secretary of State Charlie White who was convicted of six felony charges Saturday, including three counts of voter fraud, two counts of perjury and one count of theft.
But wait, that's not all.
In order to pull off his feat of deceit, he voted and claimed residence in one part of town while actually residing in another. Not only was White shuffling between homes, he was shuffling between wives at the same time:
The charges stemmed from confusion over where White lived when he campaigned for secretary of state in late 2009 and 2010. White claimed that he lived at his ex-wife's home on the east side of Fishers. But the jury convicted him based on allegations that he actually lived in a townhouse on the opposite side of town that he bought for him and his then-fiancé. The townhouse was outside his Fishers Town Council district.
According the jury, White broke the law using his ex-wife’s address while voting in the May 2010 primary and continuing to take a salary from the district.
Yet another shocker from the family values crowd. If you're keeping score, that's two counts of hypocrisy so far. Here's one more:
Shortly after White’s verdict was read, Gov. Mitch Daniels announced in a news release shortly before 3 a.m. that he has appointed Jerry Bonnet, White’s chief deputy, as interim secretary of state.
“I have chosen not to make a permanent appointment today out of respect for the judge’s authority to lessen the verdict to a misdemeanor and reinstate the elected office holder,” the Republican governor said in the news release. “If the felony convictions are not altered, I anticipate making a permanent appointment quickly.”
Ah yes, Gov. Mitch Daniels. The latest in a long line of those giving a nearly fact-free review of President Obama's first term so far in his response to the State Of The Union address last month. Daniels certainly wouldn't want to move too quickly, lest he jeopardize the chances of giving White his old job back!
After all, we mustn't stand in the way of reinstating a Secretary Of State who was just convicted of voter fraud, in order to guard against imaginary voter fraud that will never happen!
Time is of the essence!
