Earlier today, Rick Santorum did an awfully good job of proving why he has no business being president. But earlier this week, he and his wife, Karen, proved that they are despicable human beings as well.
If you'll remember, on Thursday Santorum sat down with Glenn Beck and claimed that Obama is in cahoots with librul college professors to indoctrinate our kids. But Think Progress uncovered a moment that, if possible, was even more unhinged than that. Santorum's youngest daughter, Bella (Isabella), has Edwards syndrome, a serious genetic disorder. Karen had the gall to say that her husband is running for president because she feared the health care bill would limit their ability to care for Bella. See for yourselves.
We've come to expect bottom-of-the-barrel material from Mr. Man-on-Dog, but this is without a doubt the worst we've seen yet. Edwards syndrome is almost always fatal. Most babies with it end up stillborn, and all but one percent of those that survive don't live to see their 10th birthday. The only reason the Santorums are able to afford the constant care that allowed Bella to make it this long is because they're rich enough to pay for it.
Addicting Info's Filthy Liberal Scum points out that before the health care bill, Edwards syndrome would have been tantamount to a death sentence for the rest of us.
If The Santorums were not well off and well known, their daughter could easily been denied health insurance. She was born sick, after all. Before the loathsome cruelty of Obamacare, insurance companies could, legally, mind you, turn Bella down because of her pre-existing condition. Just like that, she cannot get the life saving treatments she requires.
If you think this did not happen with alarming frequency, you are woefully ignorant of just how low an insurance company will sink to save some money for that CEO bonus.
But because of the evil and dangerous socialist overreach of Obamacare, no mother can have her baby thrown to the wolves by an insurance company that refuses to cover birth defects.
Remember how Sarah Palin was deservedly slammed for using her special-needs son Trig as a campaign prop? If there's any justice, the Santorums deserve the same treatment.
