Scott Walker and his campaign have released a statement concerning the challenge to recall signatures. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Walker will not be challenging any of the signatures, claiming they did not have enough time to review them all.
Ciara Mathews, Walkers campaign spokeswoman, commented, “We were given an impossible timeline to review the signatures,”
Regardless, the deadline of 5p.m. today is closing in and it looks like the recall is set to go through as planned. Walker and his campaign can complain about not having enough time to review the signatures, but the fact is he has had a 20 day extension on top of the initial 10 days normally given. Walker was denied a two week extension to the 30 days just recently. Enough is enough.
While the Government Accountability Board still has time to review and strike signatures, the odds of them finding 400,000 invalid signatures are pretty slim. It's time for Walker and his campaign to put up or shut up. There are no more excuses to be made, the inevitable is coming.
It's also time for any Democrats who want to challenge Walker to stand up. We need to start seriously thinking about who we want to challenge Walker, and how we are going to beat him in this election. There's no time for apprehensive candidates right now, so hopefully they come out swinging. Let's keep the momentum going and finally take Walker out!
UPDATE: A story from Politscoop.com shows Walker is attempting to use "Verify The Recall"'s signature reviews. Whether this will be accepted by the GAB is unknown, but in my opinion unlikely. I would be surprised if an outside coalition, made up mostly of out of state Tea Partiers is recognized as legitimate. Campaign finance laws prohibit the group from coordinating with Walker.
