Rick Santorum: no champion of women's rights. (Sarah Conard/Reuters)
I think in the Republican Party this counts as 'bold'. Asked to comment on Rush Limbaugh's latest (cough) fatwa,
Rick Santorum says:
“He’s being absurd, but that’s you know, an entertainer can be absurd. He’s in a very different business than I am.”
Well, there you go. Sure, the biggest voice conservatism has to offer has spent the last few days hurling sexual insults at a young woman who had the audacity to, you know,
talk and stuff, but hey, entertainers will be entertainers, right? Rick Santorum thinks it's "absurd" to call this person a "slut" on national radio, but won't actually cop to it being inappropriate or insulting or nasty or anything. No, calling their perceived political opponents "sluts" and asking for them to publish sex tapes is just what conservative entertainers do. (Rick's still gone off on limb compared to Mitt Romney, who as of the moment has refused to even comment on the fiasco. No doubt Mitt is busy preparing both of his eventual, contradictory responses so he can announce them both at the same time.)
It's amazing how much power this guy has. Constantly racist, constantly sexist, but Rush Limbaugh continues to be untouchable among "legitimate" conservatives. Even when he's doing things that would get any other "entertainer" kicked off the airwaves in no time flat. Why?
Please sign the petition calling on Rush Limbaugh's advertisers to pull their support for his ever-more-rancid "show".
