The bully from Cape Girardeau
cranked up his attacks on Georgetown Law Student Sandra Fluke Friday with another attack on her over testimony she gave at a hearing regarding insurance coverage of contraception. Most Republicans remain silent.
On Thursday, commenting about testimony that had nothing to do with her sex life, Limbaugh called Ms. Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute," adding "if we're going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch." That brought a deluge of criticism down on the GOP's shadow chairman, next to none of it from Republicans.
Today, Limbaugh piled on:
It was Sandra Fluke who said that she was having so much sex she can't afford it. [...] She's spending $3000, $1000 a year, on pills and she's going broke and wants us to buy it. [...] By her own admission, in her own words, Sandra Fluke is having so much sex that she can't afford it. [...] Does she have more boyfriends? They're lined up around the block. Or they would have been in my day.
And still, with the exception of mealy-mouthed demurring by John Boehner and Rick Santorum, the gutless Republicans have nothing to say about these attacks. If the Speaker's daughters Lindsay and Tricia had been Limbaugh's targets for these scummy attacks, would he have just said the guy's words were "inappropriate." Would Santorum not have had more to say about Limbaugh the "entertainer" if he had called Santorum's daughter Elizabeth a "slut" on national radio?
Is there any prominent Republican who will speak up forcefully for Sandra Fluke, realizing that Limbaugh wasn't just attacking her for testimony that had nothing to do with sex, but also all women who dare to have sex outside marriage? Were all these guys virgins on their wedding night? Are all of them too chicken-shit to say something meaningful to Limbaugh about his woman-hating rants? Does this waste of oxygen scare them so much that they can only cower?
It can only be assumed, given their recent legislative efforts, that they agree with him. Pathetic. Disgusting. Outrageous. No wonder women are holding the GOP in less and less esteem. Men who care about women as full human beings to make their own choices and live their own lives without interference from these misogynistic cowards ought to be jumping ship, too.
