Hilary Rosen made the bold statement that Ann Romney never worked a day in her life. Of course, we know what Hilary meant; Ann has never had a job and Ann has never needed to have a job. She grew up in privilege and married in privilege. Her reality has no relation to that of most of us.
Perhaps Hilary and Ann don't agree what "work" means.
I studied Physics in college. Not my major, but a couple required classes. We defined work:
Work: the product of a force times the distance through which it acts
As an example, when I bend my elbow to raise a glass vessel containing a pint of bitter brew, that's work.
Although in real life (that would be my real life), I'd call that a refreshing break.
Apparently, when Ann Romney spends a week at home while the kids are at school, perhaps doing a little housework, or directing the "help" on what tasks they should do, she calls that work.
In real life (again, my real life), I'd call that a vacation, although that part about directing the "help" for me is limited to using the TV remote.
When I spend 40 to 80 hours a week doing whatever it is my boss directs me to do, I call that work. Ann Romney would likely call that a situation she has never experienced.
Nice that Ann Romney could spend the past 43 years as a stay at home mom, raising those 5 boys.
