Feel the
mehmentum:
“I’m for Mitt Romney,” Bush told ABC News this morning as the doors of an elevator closed on him, after he gave a speech on human rights a block from his old home — the White House.
Could the former president of the United States have given a
less enthusiastic endorsement? Short of texting
im4mitt from the john, probably not. Even though Mitt Romney wants to return America to the Bush years—with all of Bush's old advisers and all of his old failed policies—Bush, apparently, would rather go into hiding than have to actually say something nice about the guy who wants to follow in his footsteps.
Not that any of the endorsements of Mitt Romney have been particularly enthusiastic. Dubya's own brother, for example, issued this passionate statement:
I am endorsing Mitt Romney for our Party's nomination.
Ooooh. Ahhhhh. Can't you just feel the utter lack of enthusiasm? Of course, that's not even as bad as some of the other endorsements—like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who immediately after endorsing Mitt let it be known that he's thinking about running for president himself in 2016. That's how much faith he has in his chosen candidate. Which is pretty much par for the course among Republicans: they don't like Mitt, and they don't really believe he can beat President Obama.
It's almost enough to make you pity poor old Mitt. Almost.
