To Celebrate The Completion Of
The Inoculation Project's 200th Project
|
The Inoculation Project was the brain child of hyperbolic pants explosion (HPE) who created it as a project for herself that she could commit to during her 42nd year. She posted the very first diary on her 41st birthday and invited interested members of the Kos community to join her. As HPE succinctly put it:
Well, you know what really pisses me off? The brain-meltingly stupid anti-science, anti-education, anti-competence, and anti-reality movement currently infesting conservative populist politics. I cannot even wrap my head around a bunch of people who genuinely prize ignorance.
I've had enough of this nonsense, and I suspect you have too. To that end, I introduce a weekly diary series:
The Inoculation Project.
HPE's objective was to "inoculate against ignorance" by supporting science and math education in red state classrooms. She presented one or two projects weekly from the established charity, DonorsChoose.com, founded in 2000 by a Bronx public school teacher to help donors connect with classrooms in need. Diaries first ran on Tuesday afternoons and later moved to Friday afternoons. Along the way, HPE and The Inoculation Project picked up many faithful followers including belinda ridgewood (August, 2010) and myself (April, 2010).
HPE published The Inoculation Project every week through July 8, 2011. On her watch, 116 projects were completed with the help of the group's followers. At this point HPE needed a break and both belinda ridgewood and I volunteered to keep The Inoculation Project going.
We noticed that the Friday afternoon diary wasn't convenient for many of our readers, so we experimented with days and times looking for the time slot that would reach the most eyes. Now we published on Sunday morning at 10 AM ET/7 PM PT.
This past fall, we noticed that nomandates was turning into a regular and a big cheerleader for us. We admired her clear writing and asked her if she'd like to write a diary. She posted her first diary in January 2012 and is now our featured diarist the last Sunday of every month.
Our group of followers has steadily grown and with their awesome help, The Inoculation Project completed its 200th project on Sunday, July 1, 2012 along with two additional bonus projects bringing the total to 202 funded projects.
This afternoon, I took a stroll down memory lane and visited all 202 projects. The Inoculation Project has funded 202 science and math projects in 33 states. Of the 202 projects, 114 were for elementary school classrooms, 43 were for middle school classrooms and 45 were for high school classrooms.
Please join belinda ridgewood, nomandates, all of our regulars and myself tomorrow morning at 10 AM ET/7 PM PT to celebrate The Inoculation Project's success in funding our 200th project. We're a friendly group and all are welcome. In addition to our featured projects, we have some surprises planned as well. We gladly accept all kinds of support ranging from a spare dollar on up to help an embattled teacher to reccing, republishing, sharing on Facebook or Twitter, or just stopping by to enjoy the teachers' creativity.
