Romney: - You have to scratch your head when the president spends the last week talking about saving Big Bird. I hate to say it, but he is right. Obama lost the debate. Ok. Now what? Not Big Bird.
I have watched the ads and I laughed. They are great. But it's not going to win us the election. Romney made a small remark about Big Bird, in an attempt to be funny. But the Obama-campaign has made it the centerpiece of the last political week. Is that a good idea? No, probably not.
Why? Everybody loves Big Bird, but PBS doesn't come close to the top 10 list of things that decide the vote of most Americans. The voters want to know what Obama has to offer in the next four years. That makes it a bad idea to talk about Romney's ideas.
Especially in a way that everyone understands is not realistic. It even makes Romney look presidential when he talks about the issues and we talk about Sesame Street.
In the debate Romney said:
- Where you put your money is a pretty good indication of where your heart is.
Why aren't we using THAT!? He should be running for president of the Cayman Islands!
Romney is a rich prick that doesn't care about the middle class and the majority of Americans. That's what we should focus on. No more PBS is one of many bad consequences of a Romney presidency, but far from the most serious. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, affordable education, health care, taxes on rich people, a war or two, the right to choose, the planet - the list goes on and on. In the fight against evil we have bigger birds to save than Big Bird. Let's focus on that!
I've laughed a lot at the Big Bird ads and posters. But that’s not going to win us the election, and that is the business we are in.
Now let's get out there and fight the good fight!
