In the UK, failing to teach evolution can result in schools loosing their funding. I applaud the approach of Lord Hill and agree with Sir Paul Nurse to eliminate creationism from public teaching. Their approach it not like here in the United States, where over 40 % of the population believes in creationism. Some people can’t separate science from religion. Trying to use religion to explain science is like grammar checking a calculus equation.
There are creationists and evolutionists in all religions. Creationists believe evolution is an assault on their religion. It is not. Creationists believe there was a creation event, and before that event mankind didn’t exist. They deny the fact that mankind existed before that event. Most evolutionists disagree with creationism for non-science issues. Some evolutionists consider refusing to acknowledge our ancestors insulting, if not immoral. The moral conflict about creationism today is similar to the moral conflict of slavery leading up to the civil war.
