Last night I had the privilege to be Congressman Bobby Rush’s guest to the State of the Union address. I could not agree more with President Obama’s call to action on gun violence prevention.
I’ve seen firsthand the devastating effects that gun crimes have on our community, and I’ve been there with the families who have suffered unspeakable tragedies. As the President said so eloquently last night, "they deserve a vote!"
They deserve a vote to end the cycle of violence. They deserve a vote to keep automatic weapons off our streets. They deserve a vote to close dangerous loopholes and outlaw high capacity ammunition clips. They deserve a vote to keep our families safe.
And in Congress, I'll make sure they have it.
And I won't be alone. Just this morning Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky endorsed my campaign, citing my commitment to pass strong gun violence protection laws.
And Sunday, Congressmen Danny Davis and Bobby Rush endorsed me as well...
With less than two weeks to go until Election Day we have the momentum. But I need your help to keep it!
