For tens of thousands of years, human artists have re-created the human form using a variety of media—stone, bone, clay, wood. These images, in addition to being artistic endeavors, were made for spiritual/religious, political/historic, and erotic purposes, In today’s museums there are often exhibits showing ancient Greek (see: The Male Body Beautiful; The Female Body Beautiful; Greek Faces) and ancient Egyptian (see: Ancient Egypt in Boston) sculptures of the human body.
