After almost a year of unemployment I interviewed for a job in April 2012. I didn't hear anything for over a month so I called and was told that the hiring process had been stalled due to budgetary issues. Later in June I was offered the job, but it had been cut to a part-time limited employment position. I took it b/c we were desperate. I later learned that the reason for the change was that the grant that was funding the position was no longer being guaranteed by the federal agency b/c it was concerned that no deal had occurred to forgo the Sequestration and they had to prepare for the worst. Now another grant program that has been helping pay my wage is at risk and so is the subsidy for childcare that allows me to work at this lower wage and have my little-one in a quality program.
I don't care about blame, it doesn't help my family. I do hope for a silver lining. People so easily forget how important our government is to our everyday lives. We shouldn't have to cause ourselves harm to realize this, but perhaps that's what it takes. Avoiding Sequester by bowing to the demand of the Republicans wont do America or my family any good in the long run. If it continues for a extended period and if the other budgetary issues are exploited by the Rs my family will definitely struggle even more than now. I will use the extra-time to work even harder against the forces that are causing this needless harm.
