Prepare yourselves for a some good ole fashioned blogathon, brought to by Fix the Debt, CatFood I, Catwood II (The Resurrection), POTUS, Nancy Pelosi & Harry (I'm going nuclear) Reid. You see the kind folks at the Daily Kos Social Security Defenders decided to get together and push back at the Chained CPI, except that Chained CPI isnt just about Social Security. Not strictly, you see if adopted, Chained CPI would be used for.... a lot of stuff..... Federal Poverty levels to start, and last but not least, adjusting income tax brackets for inflation.
Ouuu, Whats that smell....
I smell a rat, a rat by the name of Fix the Debt (otherwise known as Chained CPI astroturf). Let me introduce ya'll.
Well what Fix the Debt isn't telling you is that includes a 65 billion dollar tax increase on the backs of working class families because wages grow faster than Chained CPI so families will suffer bracket creep. And that Chained CPI will reduce eligibility for programs such as the EITC, Food Stamps (SNAP), WIC, Head Start. You'll see tax deductions adjusted to Chained CPI.
You may phone the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request. When emailing a Senator please include your return postal mailing address. Here is a page with Senators email contacts.

Sign and share this White House petition telling President Obama #noChainedCPI will be tolerated.
If you don't have an account at the White House web site sign the AFL-CIO petition: Benefit Cuts to Social Security and Medicare are unacceptable.
This blogathon was born from a email discussion 2 days ago, as of yet I can't tell you what the schedule is or how many writers we have. But we will kick it off tomorrow and it will go forward.
