Two inches of rain in Tallahassee makes a wet morning but now with a clearing sky. It's very green. About time to go walk around outside and see and hear whatever comes my way. Last week I discovered a native plant growing on my wooded slope -- green dragon Arisaema dracontium. 4 plants so far, all with 50' of each other.
This one succumbed to my sharp-edged spade with the long handle. Chop Chop - it looked very much like the poison ivy and Virginia creeper I was chopping along the trail. Note how the leaflets spiral out from the center. The spathe tends to stay pointing up.
Wednesday was a volunteer day at Wolf Creek Trout Lily preserve. We were pulling invasive privets. Going back Thursday to tackle a big area with big trees growing in the floodplain. It was too wet with standing water last week. Many mosquitoes...

The Florida variety is not as showy as its northern cousins.
Trout lily seeds, about the size of your fingertip. Each pod contains 8-10 seeds. I brought a couple home to spread in my woods.
