35 Congressmen signed on as co-sponsors of the CISPA Bill following a lobbying day by 200 IBM executives. Of these 35, 11 of them were "Democrats" who willfully disregarded decades of Supreme Court precedent establishing a right to privacy. Apparently, the corporate gravy train from 200 IBM executives for these people is more important than the Constitution of the United States.
These "Democrats" are as follows, along with campaign contributions from groups that support CISPA:
Jim Costa CA-16 $111,300
Henry Cuellar TX-28 $153,265
William Enyart IL-12 $0
Luis Gutierrez IL-4 $37,495
Alcee Hastings FL-20 $54,150
Derek Klimer WA-6 $0
Dan Lipinski IL-3 $91,500
Scott Peters CA-52 $0
Terri Sewell AL-7 $179,700
Kyrsten Sinema AZ-9 $0
Juan Vargas CA-51 $0
These new co-sponsors have received 37 times as much money from interests supporting CISPA than interests opposing. Members of the House have received 16 times as much money from interests supporting CISPA than from interests opposing. The House has received $67,665,694 total from interests supporting CISPA.
If we are going to do away with privacy, then we might as well go back to the days when forced pregnancy was the law of the land and women were dying from coathanger abortions. Apparently, these people see legislation as being auctioned off to the highest bidder.
These 11 "Democrats" obviously didn't learn their lesson from the 2010 election. Most of the Democrats who got voted out were people who were members of the DLC. When "Democrats" compromise their principles to that degree, low-information voters either stay home or they listen to their preacher who tells them to vote for the candidate who shows the most moral values.
We've been beating up on Obama a lot in this community over Social Security and rightfully so. But we also need to give credit where it is due. Obama has promised to veto the bill in its present form.
