Where to begin? I'm so glad I don't watch U.S. TV news (unless I'm doing research on corporate propaganda). If I did; if I watched ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, FoxNews, local affiliates in San Francisco, Miami, Houston, New York City, New Orleans, San Jose, San Diego, Denver, Austin, Chicago, or any other city in the U.S., I would not only be totally misinformed, I would be totally manipulated to an Orwellian-like degree.
God forbid... I would be talking and writing and focusing on the latest Kabuki theater bullshit story, like Benghazi, or the IRS targeting the Tea Party, or the Justice Department spying on the AP. I'm so glad I don't fall for that bullshit almost-amateurish corporate propaganda and distractions.
That allows me to stay focus on the real deal; on the most important news there is: How powerful supra-national business interests and the super-rich are paying off politicians of both major (and corrupt) political parties to move their agenda forward.
An agenda predicated on exploiting the citizenry in the name of profit. All the political and social dysfunction emanates from that. There are thousands of emails, phone calls, PowerPoint presentations, meetings, etc., happening right now as you read this, which will result in the following: the expansion and entrenchment of the total-information-awareness police state; the exploitation (and ravaging) of our natural environment in the name of private profit; the expansion of for-profit private prisons; the defunding of the social safety net and government operations (a.k.a. the dismantling of democracy); the defunding or underfunding or pillaging of pension funds; the passing of thousands of bills (big and small) that chip away at our constitutional rights, consumer protections, workers' rights, public education.
Good sources for news: Democracy Now! - truthdig.com - AlertNet - Human Rights Watch - Center For Investigative Reporting. Corporate Shills (IMHO): MSNBC, CNN, FoxNews, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR (National Petroleum Radio) - Avoid as much as you can
All this is happening at warp speed, nonstop, day and night, and because I protect myself from the mind-numbing harmful effects of watching the American U.S. news media, I'm able to keep my eye on the ball, instead of being distracted like the dogs in the movie "Up!," when they heard the word "squirrel." If I was religious, I would say, "Thank God almighty for that!"
I'm looking to connect with others who feel the same. I'm setting up a nationwide network of activists, and one important component involves research. I want to build and maintain a database of politicians across the country, and their relationships with their corporate funders. I want to understand exactly how ALEC is working behind the scenes, what type of legislation they are pushing, which politicians are they paying off, flying to "educational" conferences.
Strength lies in organization, in careful long-range planning and implementation, in consistency of action over an indefinite period of years, in the scale of financing available only through joint effort, and in the political power available only through united action and national organizations.
- Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell
As the network of activists grow, we'll coordinate strategy and tactics to expose the influence-peddling corruption in very public manner (visit this site to get ideas:
Beautiful Trouble: A Toolbox for Revolution).
We'll do research, we'll do public relations campaigns, send out press releases to media outlets, organize strategic protest rallies (i.e., eventually target every high-priced fund raising event). We'll set up teams in multiple cities that will meet on a regular basis to form friendships, gather intelligence, come up with strategies, and then bring it all together in a nationwide network capable of acting in coordination for the foreseeable future.
Check out my latest newsletter: May 14, 2013 Let's Get Together! - Nationwide Network of Social Justice Activists
Not watching the American news programs (i.e., mind-numbing propaganda), gives me the energy to focus on this project. Would you join me?
Special thanks and recognition to Meteor Blades for joining the network of activists.
Each blue dot on the map below represents a member of a growing nation-wide network of social justice and anti-corruption activists committed to finding the best way forward. Join us in the effort!
