After taking a job as Bridgeport, CT's school superintendent, a job he wasn't qualified to hold, greasing the Chairman of Bridgeport's Board of Education's
palm with a $1,000,000 payment to cover his financial issues, and disregarding the city's laws with a series of no bid contracts, Paul Vallas will save more money by eliminating the jobs of all their Literacy and Math specialists. What a guy!
Vallas has already eliminated the department heads for the district's Math, Reading, Social Studies and Science Department programs.
Not breaking a sweat, he's also placed the consultants who were the support system for the district's sped teachers back in the classroom.
I'd add a negative label to his name, but can he track me down?
Here's the letter sent out to some (but not all) of the specialists. He didn't even bother to look up their email addresses:
Dear Colleagues,
You have no doubt been hearing rumors about the status of your positions. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify what you have been hearing and to describe opportunities that are available to you.
The position of Coach (both Literacy and Numeracy) is being eliminated for a variety of reasons. We are developing a new model for support which will include three new job descriptions. These positions are:
Instructional Facilitator
Instructional Support Leader
iTell Facilitator
Literacy and numeracy coaches will have a five (5) day window to apply for these positions and will have the opportunity to interview prior to any other applicants. Please know that if you choose not to apply for any of these positions or if you do not meet the qualifications for the posted positions, district policy will be followed for placements for the 2013-14 school year.
I want to thank you for all of your hard work in your current positions. You have emerged as instructional leaders. We hope that many of you will be able to assume these new roles in our district school support model.
There's no guarantee that there will be enough jobs for all of them.
Bridgeport's special ed teachers are spending nights and weekends trying to use the new EasyIEP, the new software system always Vallas implements in the districts he oversees (see no-bid contract link above).
Thinking ahead, he's negotiated to be paid $900 for 'working' on Sundays.
It's a great gig if you can get it.
