Has he got a deal for Reid.
Shock. McCain is trying to
get the gang back together.
In 2005, a “Gang of 14” senators banded together to kill a rules change on judicial nominees; McCain hopes to repeat that success. Senators attempting to strike a deal with Reid include Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), McCain said, adding that he spent much of the weekend on the phone with his fellow Republicans.
And he's got a great idea for Democrats: Let Republicans dictate who the president nominates, and we'll approve them!
McCain said he and Republicans are trying to strike a deal with Reid would either allow up-or-down votes on seven contentious nominees or at least find “replacements” for those nominees. Reid has scheduled votes Tuesday on seven of Obama’s nominees, including the National Labor Relations Board picks, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as well as leaders to head the Labor Department, Export-Import Bank and Environmental Protection Agency.
What a deal. Republicans get to pick the Democratic president's nominees, who would support the GOP agenda of
destroying the NLRB and CFPB, and they'll vote for them.
That proposal alone should have Democrats laughing McCain out of the room.
Keep up the pressure through Tuesday morning. Send an email to Harry Reid and your Democratic senators telling them to hang tough and to vote for real filibuster reform.
