Today in E.W. Jackson news, E.W. Jackson wants to remind you that he and Virginia candidate for governor Ken Cuccinelli (R-PeopleObsessedWithSodomy) have the exact same opinions on things. Things like Ken Cuccinelli's plan to allow state money to be spent on sending children to religious schools if their parents feel all this damn science and learning crap
is an assault on their freedumz.
"Ken Cuccinelli's K-12 education plan is a much needed game changer in empowering parents with the means to ensure their children have the opportunity to receive a world-class education," Jackson said. "I am thrilled to see that parental choice is one of the cornerstones of Ken's educational reform plan. While all elements start a much needed conversation on how we can best help our children, the most crucial is Ken's proposal to amend the state Constitution to allow parents the ultimate choice of where their children are educated.
Indeed, it would take an amendment to the state Constitution to implement some of the things Ken Cuccinelli have in mind, because previous generations of Virginians had the good sense to make the sorts of things he's been talking about explicitly unconstitutional. The general plan is the usual vouchers-plus-charter-schools privatization of public education, with a special emphasis on allowing those new schools to be religious, i.e. state sponsored madrassas but you're not supposed to call them that because it sets the teeth of good Christian folks on edge. Still, the concept of state sponsored madrassas is in fact
damn close to what Virginia already has, if you are an adult woman, so perhaps changing the state constitution to be more explicitly pro-

Here's a helpful tip, and given the effort Ken Cuccinelli has gone to distance himself from E.W. Jackson, one that Cuccinelli is very, very aware of: If crackpot poster child E.W. Jackson is for something, you probably want to be against it. If E.W. Jackson says your plan for changing how education works is good, you should probably assume that it is bad. If E.W. Jackson says you should jump off a particular bridge because the water is fine, you should probably assume that it is not fine. And if E.W. Jackson says all the fine young children of his state should come get in his van because he has got some free education in there, you should probably not let your child do that.
It's very odd how E.W. Jackson is repeatedly giving Cuccinelli big ol' bear hugs and Cuccinelli isn't returning the favor. Since they support the same policies and ideas, you'd think you'd see them teaming up more. Go figure.
