One of the strangest things in the Democratic Party is this weird intense devotion to the Clinton's. Somehow we remember them both in overly idealistic terms.
Granted compared to what came after him Bill Clinton looks amazing. But let's face if we want to compare anyone to Bush they would look incredible. Hell, Warren G Harding, James Buchanan and Millard Fillmore look like geniuses if you compare them to Bush. William Henry Harrison had a better record than Bush and he died about one month into his term.
Was it not Bill Clinton who pushed the NAFTA treaty through? Where are all those jobs and prosperity that it was supposed to bring about? Ask the people of Detroit how well that NAFTA deal worked out.
Was it not Bill Clinton who pushed and signed off on:
The homophobic defense of Marriage act?
The 1996 Telecom act that accelerated media consolidation that made Fox news possible?
Welfare reform?
Opposed basically no corporate mergers?
Threw Brooksley Born under the Bus?
Gutted Glass-Stiegle?
Bill Clinton seemed to have all the political backbone of a chocolate eclair. He would sell out in a heartbeat the only time his dander gets up is when is precious reputation is threatened.
Oh but that was Bill, Hillary is different.
Okay I will grant that she was a great Sec. of State. After Bush I think the rest of the world was relieved to see a US that was rational. Obama won his Nobel Prize basically for not being Bush.
Although she did well she still has the stupid Afghanistan policy and drone strikes on her resume. Good record but not totally above reproach.
There is more to her record that sec/state. How about looking at the totality of her record.
Is she really all that different from Bill politically?
She did not come out against the Iraq war until a majority of the country was against it. Even then she was pretty tepid in her opposition.
She backed up Bush on the Patriot act.
Maybe the greatest act of denial on the part of party regulars is that form 1986-1992 she was on the board of directors of Walmart. Maybe in my middle age my mind, emotions and logic are not capable of doing the mental, emotional gymnastics and contortions to be able get around this one. How I am to expect that someone who was on the board of directors of Walmart is going to be the avatar of progressive change?
Yet in spite of this Democrats and Liberals have this strange Stockholm syndrome with the Clinton's. If we just love and support them more they will change. It is our fault if we could just show them more passion they will love us.
Look it is time to dump them or hold them to the same standard. They are just not that into us.
