Mitch McConnell is not an empty dress, say his allies
Despite claims from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's campaign that they aren't worried about losing their Republican primary battle, his campaign spent a lot of time last week
unloading on his primary rival Matt Bevin and
attacking tea party groups as representing the political "fringe."
That raised the obvious question: Why, if McConnell-land isn't worried about the primary, are they spending so much time focusing on it instead of going after Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic candidate? Well, based on this lame attack on Grimes from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (my emphasis), the answer could be simple: They haven't figured out how to attack Grimes.
Brad Dayspring, communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, derisively called Lundergan Grimes “an empty dress.” He said Lundergan Grimes attacks McConnell with talking points used by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for the same purpose.
“Alison Lundergan Grimes seems incapable of articulating her own thoughts, and faced with questions, either directly parrots the talking points handed to her by [Sen.] Chuck Schumer or she babbles incoherently and stares blankly into the camera as though she’s a freshman in high school struggling to remember the CliffsNotes after forgetting to read her homework assignment,” Dayspring told The Hill.
McConnell's been in the Senate for three decades. If the best his allies can do is attack the Democratic nominee as "an empty dress" who "babbles incoherently," they're in for a pretty tough campaign.
